Prison and Courts Bill Scrapped

Following the Government’s call for a snap general election this week, it has today been announced that the Prison and Courts Bill has been abandoned.
The Bill was due to introduce new legislation for the Courts in respect of Personal Injury claims and general reforms of the use of the Courts (including the use of virtual hearings) and also Prison reforms to deal with security and associated matters.

The Bill had reached the Committee Stage of the House of Commons but will now not proceed any further due to the fact that it will not be able to be implemented before Government is dissolved in readiness for the General Election to be held on the 8 June 2017.
