Everyone is entitled to free, confidential and independent legal advice at the police station 24hours a day 365 days a year. There is a government funded scheme to allow for anyone who attends the police station either on a voluntary basis or who is arrested to be represented by a criminal defence solicitor. You can choose your own solicitor to attend or alternatively, if you do not have a nominated solicitor, you can ask for the duty solicitor who will represent you.
There is a common misunderstanding that you have to pay privately for police station representation and that you receive a better service if you do pay privately for representation. There is no need to pay for representation as advice and attendance is provided free of charge.
If you are invited to attend a voluntary interview at the police station, we would contact the officer on your behalf and obtain the disclosure regarding the allegation and discuss the case with you. We would then represent you at the police station and then liaise with you and the officer if required afterwards.
If you are arrested at a police station, we can represent you. Often people believe that being represented by a solicitor at the police station will delay the time that they are kept in custody, in fact it is quite the opposite. Once we are requested to represent you we will chase the officer in your case and ensure that they are conducting the investigation quickly to prevent you being detained for longer than necessary.
There are many outcomes following your arrest and we will liaise with the officer after your interview for an outcome.
We, at Paul Robinson, provide advice and assistance at the police station 24 hours a day. This is essential for anybody who has been detained outside of regular working hours. Access to legal advice can help prevent miscarriages of justice by ensuring that you understand your rights, the legal process and the implications of your actions or statements whilst in police custody.
We recognise that being arrested or invited to attend a voluntary interview at the police station can come as a shock and can be extremely stressful. We aim to make the process simpler for you and to ensure that you are treated fairly and within your rights.
