From 24th September 2024, it will be illegal to own zombie-style knives and machetes. The current legislation makes it illegal to own a zombie knife which has a blade with a cutting edge, a serrated edge depicting images or words either on the blade or handle which suggest it is to be used for violence.
From 24th September 2024, it will be illegal to own zombie-style knives or machetes, even if they do not display words or images implying it is to be used for violence. Anyone that owns a zombie-style knife or machete on or after 24th September 2024 will be liable to prosecution.
A surrender period will start on 26th August 2024 at midnight and will end on 23rd September 2024 at 11:59pm. During this time, owners of such weapons will be able to surrender the items to the police at designated police stations and claim compensation. If an owner is to surrender their weapons during the relevant period, it must be transported safely, wrapped up and placed in a sealed bag or box. The weapons must not be carried openly at any time.
Compensation may be payable in certain circumstances.
